Yerevan's landmarks and attractions

Yerevan has had a turbulent history, experiencing cultural influences from Persia, Syria, Turkey. Until the 1990s, Armenia was part of the Soviet Union, which significantly impacted its culture and architecture – in Yerevan, you can still see numerous vestiges of the Soviet times. In the 21st century, the city, however, is experiencing rapid change, with sprouting cafes, restaurants, galleries and art centers. You will still find some of the remnants of the old city with its 19th century architecture.

• In Yerevan, enjoy the hearty local cuisine that has been largely shaped by Levantine and Persian influences – the excellent kebabs, manti (tiny dumplings) and lentil soup are some of the delicious local specialties. One of the staples of Armenian cuisine are fresh and dried apricots – make sure to try the famous tangy lentil soup cooked with apricots.

When to visit Yerevan?

Yerevan has a mildly continental climate – don't hesitate to plan your visit throughout the whole year. The warmest months are July and August, when temperatures rise above 27 degrees Celsius, in winter, temperatures drop down to 3-4 degrees below zero. The autumn months in Yerevan are the rainiest.
